June 4, 2004, Newsletter Issue #70: Are Dead Human Bodies dangerous?

Tip of the Week

Are cremains dangerous? Probably not, but the jury is still out on this one. Are cremains organic? Nope. They do not contain carbon of and in themselves. If there is carbon in them it has been "added" by the process....therefore cremains do not constitute a "Dead Human Body." Cremains are inorganic bone fragments. They have undergone such a process that they are no longer "what you were." Cremains are not a "Dead Human Body." One of the several "final dispositions" is cremation itself. As soon as a body is cremated it is disposed of. Therefore, you do not need a permit to carry cremains across a state line.
