January 16, 2004, Newsletter Issue #50: Body Donation or other choices

Tip of the Week

Upon a death, perhaps someone at the hospital will ask the family if the eyes, or other parts of the body can be "harvested." This generous permission not only often saves lives, but sight, hearing or other functions of those living.
There are different kinds of donations, selective body areas for organ donation for those living, or full body donation to a medical science school edu. department or mortuary school.
If you are considering any donation, know ahead of time, one is not allowed to donate organs for others, if body donation is wished, as they will not accept a body with missing parts, as a donor and donating parts would
void a donor agreement. They only permit harvesting of eyes and skin.
It can be rewarding to others, in many ways, and very rewarding to the family as well in sharing, giving and assisting others.
(Please note, the subject of funerals /loss and that surrounding them is our topic. So sorry if this has reached anyone who is just going thru the death of a loved one.)
Always the Best, Betty B.
