Infection

Many infections could cause miscarriage. Some of these are: syphilis, mycoplasma, toxoplasmosis, German measles, and AIDS. Those infections targeting the uterus add bigger risk. This does NOT include yeast infection.

Prevention

In some cases, a miscarriage cannot be prevented. If you miscarried due to a physical problem, such as a weak cervix, corrective procedures can be done. Take it easy during pregnancy. Do not do any heavy lifting. Avoid heavy heat - which can cause stress on your body. Avoid stress and stressful situations. Avoid vibrations in movement: ATV, snowmobiles, etc.

Subsequent Miscarriage

If you have had one miscarriage, your likelihood of another rises from 10% to 13% after the subsequent pregnancy is diagnosed.

Lupus Anticoagulation

Lupus Anticoagulation has no symptoms in the mother, but causes blood vessels that are in the placenta to clot. The clotting cuts off the baby´s supply of oxygen and food. This type of problem causes miscarriage during the second or third trimester

Signs of Miscarriage

If you experience any of these symptoms, contact a doctor or ER:
Strong cramps
Heavy bleeding
Passing tissue which looks like large blood clots

Chromosome

Over half of early miscarriages are a result of chromosome defects. These defects cause a newly- fertilized egg to die. The chances of it happening again are very small.

Risks

Some risks for miscarriage are: smoking, previous miscarriage, fibroids, lupus, diabetes, and age. Lifting, shocks, vibration, noise, substances, biological agents, and stress are also risks.

Immune Incompatibility

This causes the mother´s blood cells to attack the baby. This happens due to lack of immune suppression women experience in pregnancy. This causes miscarriage in the first trimester.

Hormones

If you miscarried due to hormones, it is probable that you miscarried in less than ten weeks. This type of miscarriage is easily treatable. Taking extra progesterone is one way to help treat it.

Uterus or Cervix Problems

An unusually shaped uterus or a weakened cervix is responsible for 12% of miscarriages occurring between 12 to 24 weeks. There are treatments available for both of these problems. This problem will recur if not treated. Two types of treatment are corrective surgery for the uterus and a cervical stitch to hold the cervix closed.
