October 23, 2009, Newsletter Issue #172: Do It Yourself Caskets

Tip of the Week

Personalizing funerals is a growing trend in the industry. As people are moving away from the strict style of ceremony they are holding ones that speak to the person that they are remembering.

One unique way that this is being done is with do it yourself caskets. Build the casket from scratch or order a kit. Many companies that offer the kits promise next day delivery. Once built, decorate the casket with the help of family and friends. This can be done as part of the viewing. As people say their goodbyes have supplies available for them to sign the casket with their thoughts or pictures.

A do it yourself casket is often part of a green funeral. It can be built to be suitable for a natural burial in a green cemetery or for a cremation.
