Funeral rites have changed since just a decade ago.
In those days you had a viewing for 2 evenings and then the funeral the next day.
Now, a lot of the time, a burial is directly after only one `viewing` or service. However,

1.Funerals are important times for healing family wounds. By all means those who can should attend the funeral.
2. In addition to praying for the dead, funerals also have as one of their benefits the strengthened faith and comfort of the bereaved.
3. As far as how to comfort the dying goes, my "short" answer is simply to be present to them & let them tell you what their needs are.
